If you are like me and have unused small micro SD cards lying around the house or office from old mobile phones and devices, the Collector USB Flash Drive Concept can put them to good use. It combines a number of small capacity memory Micro SD cards, or large if you have the funds. Transforming them into one useable USB memory flash drive.
The Collector USB Flash Drive concept has been designed by Fang-Chun Tsai and is still just a idea at the moment so no details are available on the mechanics of the partitioning as yet.

The different memory Micro SD cards combine to create one large useable storage device and can be swapped when the capacity needs to be expanded. A great idea for recycling those old mobile phone Micro SD cards, let hope it can make the jump from concept to production.

really nice concept
This wouldn't be too hard to make. One USB hub (taken apart), three USB microSD readers (taken apart), one new case, and voila!
Good idea for a weekend project...
Alex, it wouldn't be that easy actually. Using a hub and three SD readers would result in three separate drives showing up instead of a single larger drive. In order to pull this off, software would have to be implemented into the USB device to "spill-over" data from one drive to the next or attempt a true RAID array requiring drives of equal capacity (which isn't a good option beyond just being capable of doing so).
The best option would be to include hardware/software which would enable JBOD and RAID based on the user's choice.
Well put Erick :)
Gr8 concept !!! Congrats !!!
Blue plastic? or USB 3.0?
but then that still leaves me with the problem of another useless flash drive laying around.
I'd actually prefer the drives to show up separate. If they are tied together in one filesystem then you can't ever remove one card later on to use in something else without losing all your data and making the other cards useless, right?
I think the convenience of this is being able to access all of them at once or whenever you need without swapping anything around, not necessarily that you can pretend you now have one large drive. What's the point? All my minis are 8 gigabytes and I wouldn't generally haul around a blue ray iso in one large piece due to other file systems I like to use across my setup.
I like the concept of three in one. (or more) I have over 11 different USB Flash Drives. I also have the 250GB Passport Elite. I would love a device that takes all my cards, and when it's loaded on a pc, they could all pop up, so I can decide where I want the information stored. Either on another pc or drive transfer. Interesting. I also like the comment about weekend project. All in all, Looks like a good product. I buy it. Add it to the family to say the least, and use it in my arsenal of usb drives. =) One Love...
I would buy this in a heartbeat.
Jus sayin... *hint hint* would be nice to have. :p
good look
Smart phones are the computers of today and I have to swap SD cards from time to time to access old information. Can you design one that will fit a mini USB port?
How small can you go. Genious!
Nice but if something like this for memory enhancement is designed it would be really awesome, which couod be connected via USB and can accommodate a d memory chip whether SD, DDR, DDR2 and DDR3
