Is it a window, is it a phone? No. Actually, it’s Window phone and this is the part where you are saying “Whaaat? What are you talking about?”. The phone is actually a concept with extraordinary features. Surely if this could be actually put into production, it would set a new standard for the term “cool”.

I don't know about the battery or charger, but I'd assume the case would be like just a thick frame to go around the edges. So if you dropped it, the front or back wouldn't touch the ground, just the frame. And all sides would obviously be protected.
Why would it shatter? Acrylic plastic would be the choice material and yes a normal clear jel edge cover would protect the edges.
But lets say normal phone batteries are 90mm x 60 mm x 3mm, then a battery around the perimeter of the phone would be a bigger area than normal fone battery. It only need to be 3 mm in depth x 8mm width of the edge. Only drawback that it could not be replaced. Of course that part would not be transparent.
My guess is it would charge by magic on such a magnificent cool phone.

and then i thought, man, the phone i have now is just... too easy to read. how could i design a phone that would be difficult to use and see in almost every possible lighting situation... A-HA!
When I think of the possible applications of this future tech, a phone isn't even in the top 10. - How about this? All the glass surfaces in your home and life could appear as 'anything' and be 'interactive'. Windows, mirrors, doors. Any color, image or video. Anytime.
